Picture 3

This picture portrays Marcus when he was first caught by the DHS, he was bound in plastic handcuffs and had a bag put over his head so he could't see. In this picture, Marcus, who has just been caught, is on a miniature version of San Francisco, where most of the city is clearly shown, and where the destroyed Bay Bridge is in plain sight, hence the smoke. I think that this picture is trying to convey how Marcus might have felt when he was detained. The city where he lived had just been attacked by terrorists, his best friend had just been stabbed, and now they were all caught by the DHS. This picture also shows that Marcus is aware of what is happening outside even though he is being 'kidnapped'.

This picture, which was one of the special edition covers for Little Brother,  helped me understand the events in the book because it shows the explosion that started Marcus' troubles, and allowed me to visualize just how big the explosion was. Previously  I had thought that all, or at least most, of the bridge had been destroyed in the terrorist attack, but the picture showed me that only a section of it was destroyed.
