Picture 1

This picture is of the most devastating and memorable acts of terrorism in the history of America, 9/11. I chose this picture for a lot of reason, firstly, because it shows what happens when terrorists strike, and helps visualize what the destruction of the Bay Bridge might have been like. Secondly, this because most problems in this book started with the terrorist's destruction on the Bay Bridge, and therefore, the troubles the main character experiences in this book was partly caused by the terrorists.
Also, 9/11 is alike to the destruction of the Bay Bridge in many ways, for example, in both tragedies, many people who were on the structure died from the explosion and debris. Some of the government's actions were also explained to me by this picture, for example, why they were so desperate. As well as those visuals, this picture also allowed me to roughly estimate the shock and force exerted by the explosion.

Hey, John, I also did "Little Brother" by Cory Doctorow for my book report. I know this blog post is just for your Picture #1, but this is written in response to all of your pictures.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I think you chose nicely. This first on definitely represents the horror that the citizens of San Fran might have felt when they realised that the Bay Bridge was being blown up. It really is what started the whole book. The next photo I didn't understand at first, but your description is quite understandable. New technology _can_ wipe out many people in one shot and that is a terrifying balance of power--whoever has this power can kill who and what they want. The third picture was made for the novel, so it obviously makes sense. The fourth photo is great because it is how Marcus combatted the government, evading them long enough to spill his story to the public and get them busted.
Great job overall on this post!
